Athletic Director Kevin Leigh's Message
The Philosophy of the Saint Charles Sports program is to compete in a Christian spirit of
sportsmanship, teamwork, and cooperation. All athletes will participate to the level of their
trained to handle young men and women in a spirited Christian atmosphere. All students are
encouraged to participate fully.
The St. Charles Sports Boosters Club offers a quality and diversified sports programs for the students of the
Baseball, Girls CYO Fastpitch Softball, and Intramural Boys / Girls Track for grades 1-3. Fall brings Boys / Girls
CYO Cross Country, Girls CYO Volleyball, Boys / Girls CYO Soccer and Intramural Boys / Girls Cross Country.
The winter season includes Boys / Girls CYO Basketball, Boys CYO Wrestling and Intramural Boys Wrestling. In
between the fall and winter sports seasons.
The St. Charles Sports Boosters Club evolved in the 1980s from the St. Charles Men's Club organization to
more appropriately reflect the strong leadership from both men and women in the parish. During each
'season',( fall, winter, spring), approximately 200 students take part in the variety of sports offered at that time.
Over 100 CYO-certified, Virtus- approved coaches volunteer their time to teach these young men and women
not only the rules and skills of the game, but also cooperation, sportsmanship, teamwork and the other fine
qualities that a spirited competition brings out in these young athletes.
The Boosters Club's function is to totally support these many sporting activities. Field and gym rentals, uniforms,
referee fees, entry fees, and basic equipment for all the nine sports, some 50+ teams, and around 600-700 total
athlete participations require a budget that annually exceeds $ 50,000.00. All support comes from the sports
fees charged, ( presently $ 60 / sport, one of the lowest in the diocese),membership dues, and the various fund
raising activities that the club asks for your assistance. Spring fund raisers include the favorite Malley's Easter
Candy Sale, in which you can have your order shipped directly to you by Malleys or you can easily pick your
order up before Easter at St. Charles, no malls, lines, or hassles, we'll make your order right. Shortly after
Easter, the golf committee will begin to further organize the St. Charles Sports Boosters Annual Golf
Outing, a four- man scramble affair at Coppertop at Cherokee Hills Club in Valley City on Sat, June 5 at 1:30
PM. Lunch, beverages, dinner in an air conditioned banquet hall are all provided along with 18 holes on the
rolling, scenic course, cart, (GPS equipped), which includes on screen tournament up to the minute scoring to
provide a fun competitive atmosphere. Foursomes and / or single golfers are needed to help this fun interesting
activity. Recent economical patterns have affected the fundraising efforts of the club, and we are asking all
parishioners to help us if at all possible. No other organization provides so much to the young students of our
dayschool and PCRF programs. Many of the current parishioners came through the excellent St. Charles Sports
Programs, and we ask them and all parishioners to help us keep our program at the excellent level at which it
now sits. We all know that it is most important to keep our youngsters active in fun, supervised, Catholic
programs as a part of their educational growth, and the CYO sports offers that in a big way. Please help us take
to our youth of today to be the respected leaders of our city, state, country, world tomorrow.
